Who is the course for?
For those students whose Emergency Medical Care Certificate is due to expire.

Minimum Entry Requirements:
16+ years of age. Valid HSE First Aid at Work Certificate. Valid Emergency Medical Care Certificate.

Certification:
Certificate of Competency. Issued by the Ambulance Service and valid for one year.

Duration:
Five days.

Class Size:
Student / Instructor ratio of 12:2.

Who delivers it?
Commercial Ambulance Instructor & Paramedic.

Description:
The focus is on refreshing and ensuring competency in key skills as detailed below, and less formally on other aspects from the course.

  • Resuscitation including the use of Automated External Defibrillation,Oropharyngeal airways, Oxygen, suction equip and Bag - Valve - Mask.
  • Patient assessment including blood pressure measurement, pulseoximetery, basic ECG recognition.
  • Management of cardiac conditions.
  • Management of trauma and shock.
  • Use of Long board, cervical collars, orthopaedic stretcher (Scoop).
